Community guidelines

Vukosi is a digital space created to celebrate African culture, achievements, identity, and creativity. To protect our community, we require all users to follow these guidelines. Violating these guidelines may result in removal of content, warnings, restrictions, or permanent suspension.

1. Respect and kindness

The following are prohibited:

  • Harassing, bullying, or threatening others
  • Encouraging violence or harm
  • Shaming or humiliating individuals or groups

We encourage empathy and respectful conversation.

2. Hate speech and discrimination

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, or tribalism
  • Insults or slurs targeting groups
  • Symbols associated with hate or violence

3. Violence and harmful behaviour

The following are prohibited:

  • Graphic violence or depictions of injury
  • Encouraging harm to yourself or others
  • Dangerous challenges or harmful trends
  • Depictions of abuse or cruelty

Content involving mild or non-graphic depictions may be hidden behind a tap-to-view screen.

4. Sexual content

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Nudity or sexually explicit content
  • Sexualised content involving minors (zero tolerance)
  • Pornographic material
  • Sexually suggestive behaviour intended for adult audiences

Content with non-sexual partial nudity (e.g., cultural dress) may be permitted.

5. Impersonation and identity abuse

You may not impersonate:

  • Celebrities
  • Politicians
  • Public figures
  • Brands or organisations
  • Other users

Parody and fan accounts are not permitted.

6. Misinformation and harmful claims

We may remove content or add labels to content if it contains:

  • False claims that may cause real-world harm
  • Deceptive or manipulated media presented as real
  • Scams, phishing attempts, or fraudulent offers

7. Illegal activities

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Selling or promoting drugs, weapons, or illicit goods
  • Facilitating fraud or money laundering
  • Depictions of criminal activity
  • Providing instructions for illegal actions

8. Bots, spam, and platform abuse

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Automated or bot-driven accounts
  • Mass following or unfollowing
  • Automated posting or commenting
  • Repetitive spam comments
  • Fake engagement (bought likes, follows, or views)
  • Scraping, harvesting, or collecting user data
  • Attempts to overload or degrade the Service

Violating this rule may result in immediate account removal.

9. Intellectual property

Share only content you own or have permission to use. You may not upload copyrighted material without the rights to do so.

10. Sensitive content

Some content may be marked as sensitive and placed behind a tap-to-view screen. You are encouraged to avoid posting shocking or disturbing content.

11. Reporting violations

You may report:

  • Posts
  • Stories
  • Comments
  • Replies
  • Accounts

Our moderation team reviews reports as quickly as possible.

12. Appeals

If content is removed or your account is restricted, you may submit an appeal. We will review the decision once.
